Physical and Virtual Card Assignment and Activation Rules
Review the rules and limitations for assigning, activating, and managing physical and virtual cards with Emburse Cards. These guidelines help protect cardholder data, support compliance requirements, and clarify who can view or activate card details.
Card Visibility and Access
- Admins can view only the last four digits and expiration date of all cards, except cards assigned to themselves.
- For compliance reasons, only the assigned cardholder can view full virtual card details.
- Physical card details are available only on the card itself and are not displayed in the dashboard.
Assignment Rules
- Cards must be assigned to a user using the user’s legal first and last name.
- Cards cannot be assigned to a business, business location, or team.
- Once issued, a card cannot be reassigned to a different user.
Activation Rules
- Only the assigned cardholder can activate a physical or virtual card. Administrators cannot activate cards on behalf of a user.
-
Cards do not activate automatically upon creation.
- The cardholder must accept the terms of service before the card becomes active.
- After the terms of service are accepted, future virtual cards issued to the same user activate automatically upon creation. Physical cards require activation each time they are issued.
