What Do I Put as the Description of the Card?

This article explains what to enter in the Card Description field when creating a physical or virtual Emburse Card and how that description appears in the product and on the card.

Character Limits

Card descriptions have the following character limits:

  • Virtual cards: 40 characters
  • Physical cards: 21 characters

Physical Cards

Due to Stripe’s Terms of Service, physical cards display only the assignee’s first and last name on the front of the card, regardless of what is entered in Card Description.

If you enter text in Card Description, it appears in your Emburse Card account and displays above the card in the dashboard. It does not print on the front of the physical card.

On the Emburse Cards dashboard, you will see both the assignee’s first and last name and the business name. Both are printed on the front of the physical card.

Physical cards do not support accented characters in first or last names. Names that contain accented characters will not print correctly on the card.

Virtual Cards

For virtual cards, the card description appears at the top of the card image in the product. The business name remains on the card face.

The first and last name shown on the virtual card is the assigned cardholder’s name. You can enter any appropriate text in Card Description, subject to the character limit.
