Do I need to add a member before assigning them a card?

Yes. Due to compliance requirements from our Card processor Stripe, all physical and virtual cards must be assigned to a member. Cards can no longer be left unassigned and require all cardholders to accept the new Terms of Service when activating their plastic card.

Only the assignee of the card can activate it through the Emburse Card activation link, or directly through their account. Admins can no longer activate physical cards on behalf of someone.

Any cards that were previously left unassigned will now be assigned to the business and can be activated by an Admin, but cannot be reassigned to a member.

You can create a member as you're creating the card. The invited person will receive an email with instructions to set a password and register to login to your Emburse Cards account.
